I'm in love with this series by Lia Steele called 'Eden'. She is an Australian artist based in Melbourne and works with photographs. Her works explore the themes of youth, aging, beauty, death and the ideal, and explores cultural practices such as documentation of life and the search for paradise on earth. This was her first series that she exhibited that revolves around portraits of young people on the cusp of adulthood in an exploration of the obsessive curiosity into the transitory stage of youth and a human relationship with nature.

Check out her site and her other works here

Ever since I've been into photography I have always wanted to own Hasselblad camera. Their the camera that every professional photographer should have and every photographer dreams of. They have always been famous for their great quality lenses and their invention of digital backs so people who have old film ones can use them today with modern technology. They can cost around from $5.000 - $10,000 and can still cost more. If i had the money i would totally buy one because it would be worth it. They last forever and I would never need to buy another camera again :)

My newest love on flickr is gaint! who takes lovely sweet pictures. They just simple and pretty. I have to learn how to make these kinds of effects on my images. Also I'm going up to the city tomorrow to go to the art gallery and visit a friend who has just moved up there. Should be a fun day, get to play trivia and drink :)

I love Tim Burton and all that he stands so I was very excited to see this short film by artist Ken Turner who is obsessed with Tim Burton as well. The short film 'Tim' is about a little boy called Timonthy Gray who wants to grow up and be just like Tim Burton. It has a similar style and theme to Burton's film, epicially his short film 'Vincent'.

I find quite odd to find another person that has work that looks like Burton's, as well as he's drawings. But i like him never the less. Be sure to check him out at his blog, flickr and vimeo.

Artist: Jeff Bark

I have recently discovered my newest love and that is the American photographer Jeff Barks. His photographs likens the traditions of the old masters style of painting, photographing on a studio set of enormous proportions as he pays meticulous attention to detail. Most of his models come from people responding to his ads placed on the Internet and have never posed professionally, let alone nude and the whole experience of being the focus of attention is surely to remain with them for the rest of their lives.
I'm in love with his 'Woodpecker' series (first row) as it reminds me of those classic Romanticism paintings. I wish i could look at these face to face but he hasn't got anything planned for down under. Hope you guys like his works as well :)

Be sure to check out his website

My face

A friend of mine has asked me to take photos for him of him because he is wanting to get into modeling. So I've been trying to find inspiration and its very hard to find photo's I like that have males in them. Im sure it will go well as he is going to pay me and such. These are a few that I quite like and will get inspiration from. I already have nice location in mind for some photo's and i think i might ask for a girl to stand in for a couple to show he can work with other people in a shot.
If anyone knows of any photo's of flickr that include male models please comment :)

Get some culture in you

I had a great time at the gallery last night. Unfortunately didn't win anything but i recieved a lot of very nice comments from other guests. Still had fun drinking wine and eating crackers with cheese with my friends and family. I don't think i'll enter anymore competitions for a while but the next one i plan on going into is for the Archibald at the Art Gallery of New South Wales :)

Portrait prize

I just entered this photo into a portrait prize and the Wollongong art gallery in NSW Australia. It's of one of my friends and comes from a body of work i did last year for a photography class. The series was called, “Each new generation is a fresh invasion of savages”.  The body of work is a comment on our society and how big co-operations and steel works are effecting us. The way in which the industry is going, it is like we have gone back to the stone age like when man discovered fire. The models represent the adolescent youth who are the future. We are seen as savages and this is shown by the reference to cannibalism. The meat was brought from the local butcher's and they are covered in blood (mixed paint and water) and mud. I was heavily influenced by Bill Henson in this series, being inspired by his style and technique.

The opening is on this Friday and I hope I when in my category. Went in the student one which is a prize of $150 and a digital camera. Even so it's a great feeling seeing a piece you have done hanging in a gallery where the public will see it and hopefully are impacted by it. Will post about the opening and what happen. Wish me luck :)
You can see the rest of the series on my flickr

Photographer: Amanda De Vito

Amanda De Vito, I came upon her by accident but have instantly fallen in love with her images. They are mysterious, intriguing & gorgeous and show a perfect balance of shadows and light, decay and haunting beauty. What I love most about them, is that they tell stories & give you goosebumps, something I think true art always does. You could look at her photos again and again and keep finding something new to love about every single one.

Well it's the first official day off my week off from uni and so far it hasn't been its all cracked up to be. Been remebering alot of things from the past and can't stop bringing up all these emotions again. Don't want to get all emo on you but this has been te first time in a while that i've felt really sad. This years has been going good for me with uni, friends, uni and my art but as soon as you think you are over everything it comes straight back and slaps you across the face.

Just picked up this book called Sunflowers: A Novel of Vincent van Gogh by author Sheramy Bundrick who is an art historian. Review from Amazon...

'In a knockout debut novel, art historian Bundrick (Music and Image in Classical Athens) brings Vincent Van Gogh's paintings and personal story to vibrant life. While Bundrick takes many liberties (recorded in an author's note) in her fictionalized account of Van Gogh's affair with her narrator, fille de maison Rachel Courteau, she gives Rachel such a believable voice that the proceedings seem genuine. At 35, Van Gogh meets lovable spitfire Rachel while surreptitiously sketching her in a garden. Having taken refuge in an Arles brothel after the death of her parents, Rachel greets Van Gogh as a customer not long after, and soon feelings blossom between them. Visiting friend Paul Gauguin and the cloud of Van Gogh's madness undercut the couple's bliss, as do financial troubles and Rachel's life at the maison, where she's kept a virtual prisoner. While infusing well-known historical moments (like Van Gogh's infamous self-mutilation) with vivid details, humanizing Van Gogh and putting his famous works in context, Bundrick generates an impressive volume of suspense, delight and heartbreak.'

I love these kinds of stories about famous painters lives. Even though its not true their make you feel like you are getting to know them even better then from old books. Will start reading it tonight and keep you updated on how it goes :)
